takin' what i believe & leavin' the rest

i have decided to read the bible. for historical purposes. why not if i'm reading the tao anyway?

amanda olson said it will change my life.

i need to find a modern, softback version that isn't directed towards teenagers. i also need a bookcover because this is a private thing for me.

anyway, when reading my recently purchased version of the tao, it opened with this bible verse:

(which i can't find so this is to be continued...)

zach recommended that i read 'how to know god' by deepak chopra. i know spirituality. want to know history now. i'm not so sure an individual god/tradition is the forefront of my research though.

I completely agree. Explore your own spirituality, whether it is reading the tao or the bible...I have some great books that accompany the old testament that are good to have just in case. Either way, I look forward to reading more about your journey.

what a 'novel' idea...to read the bible for purely historical purposes. I think I will be first in line to hear what you find out. I would suggest definitely reading some scholarly texts on the history of the bible as well. Understanding what kind of changes occur in all the many translations that have come before, too. By the way, I didn't know you were reading the Tao - really interesting! Let me know what similarities you find between the two texts, I think that would be intriguing to know as well.
